Mr. and Mrs. Dawson's son Josh weighed 28 pounds on his second birthday. On his eighth birthday, Josh weighed 56 pounds. What is the percentage increase in Josh's weight from his second birthday until his eighth birthday?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

ok so josh gained weight right? so will the percent be higher or lower than 100%?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

if we take say 28 to be the 100%, so what's 56 of 28? well \(\large \begin{array}{llll} lbs&percentage\\ \hline\\ 28&100\\ 56&x \end{array}\implies \cfrac{28}{56}=\cfrac{100}{x}\)
