Slime molds have animal-like traits. What might be one reason they are classified with water molds as funguslike protists?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The slime molds and water molds are classified as EUKARYOTIC protists instead of fungi because they lack cell specialization. Since there is no cell specialization, these molds are really colonial protists, lacking the more complex tissues of hyphae and mycellium. Also, these molds do not reproduce through spores, as the fungi do. There is no real alternation of generation. So they are fungus-like protists.
