does rubidium forms a basic solution in water???

OpenStudy (praxer):

Rubidium metal reacts very rapidly with water to form a colourless solution of rubidium hydroxide (RbOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). The resulting solution is basic because of the dissolved hydroxide.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!! could you help me with one more?

OpenStudy (praxer):

will try. Put the question. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following describes the element Xe? Choose all that apply. 1. reacts vigorously with alkali metals to form salts 2. belongs to a group consisting entirely of gases 3. is very reactive as a metal 4. is one of the group of the least reactive elements 5. forms a basic solution in water 6. consists of diatomic molecules in elemental form

OpenStudy (praxer):

it is 2, 4. all the noble elements are gases. It is least reactive cause it form compounds with O and F.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow... thank you ! how do you know this? did you look it up?

OpenStudy (praxer):

I am in the 12th grade and last month I gave the final exam. We had a chapter on p,d,s,f block elements. So, I have studied them. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really thats awesome... i'm having a little bit of hard time understanding this chp (did you teacher give you good notes? )

OpenStudy (praxer):

I prefer J.D. Lee for inorganic chemistry. It is a good book: http://www.amazon.com/Concise-Inorganic-Chemistry-J-Lee/dp/0632052937 Teacher doesn't provide us any notes. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it a big textbook?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

has it been useful for all chps or just this one?

OpenStudy (praxer):

It is good for inorganic chemistry. Book is big but you will get a good understanding. If you are from India, than I would have recommended you an Indian Book, good for academic understanding. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you going to major in a science field? how about for principals of chem would it also be useful for that?

OpenStudy (praxer):

Hmmm... I think I shall take up Math in my minors. :) You are in which grade ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12 grade... math congrats i couldnt ha
