Since the number of men and women are about the same in the U.S., by letting women vote, half of the population became able to vote.

BTW, Amendment 26 extended the voting age to 18 year old from 21 years old, but by allowing 18-20 year olds to vote, that cannot possibly have doubled the number who can vote.
