@iPwnBunnies help

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Break it up into shapes. Find the area of each side of the rectangular prism.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Find the area of each triangle in the pyramid.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hold on

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

It should be a whole number.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

One triangle has a base of 6 mm, a height of 4 mm, and there are 4 triangles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

48

OpenStudy (phi):

now the 4 sides. then the bottom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

48 is including the 4 sides

OpenStudy (phi):

the 48 is the 4 triangles on the top now the rectangles that make the sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

42

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. what about the other 3 sides? what do the 4 sides add up to ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28

OpenStudy (phi):

what is 28 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i doing this wrong? ... i did 7*4 cause there are 4 sides and one side is 7mm

OpenStudy (phi):

you want the area of each side. each side is a rectangle with 6 across and 7 up one side has area of 6*7= 42 each side has that same area. there are 4 of them. how much is the area of all 4 sides ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

168

OpenStudy (phi):

so far you know the 4 triangles have area of 48 the 4 "sides" are 168 now the bottom. what is the area of the bottom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 36

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, the bottom is 6 x 6 = 36 now add up all the areas 48+168+36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

252

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, that is the surface area of the figure. If you were painting it, that is how much you would paint.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thankyou so much!!! :)
