What is K? I know the answer is E, but how do I get that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the parabola is tangent to \(y_1\). what is the slope of \(y_1\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

btw, this will be a multistep process...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I completely don't understand it at all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what level are you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Calculus 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slope of y1 is 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, sidetracked. so when you take the derivative of the \(y_2\) function, find the x value that gives a slope of 1, call it \(x_T\). since the functions are tangent at that point, you know the y value will be the same because \(y_1=|x|\). so \(x_T=0.050(x_T)^2+k\) and solve for k.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is xt = 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait... no.
