Which of the following statements is true about the triangles below? ABC = ABD by SSS ABC = ABD by ASA ABC = ABD by SAS ABC = ABD by AAA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would go with ABC = ABD by ASA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, SAS means side-angle-side sss means side side side asa means angle side angle aaa means angle angle angle How does ABC = ABD? By two congruent sides and one angle? By three congruent sides? By the congruent angles? Or by two congruent angles and one congruent side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jadeybells I have no clue, all I have is the drawing of the triangle in case if that helps and the answer choices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol okay, look at the angles of the triangle. First of all, is the triangle exactly how it shows in your lesson/test?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes that is exactly how it shows.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, that'll be helpful. If you look at angle B of triangle ABD you'll see it's slightly more acute than the angle B in ABC. Meaning it can't be ABC= ABD in AAA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it looks like there are congruent angles on the top and bottom and there is a congruent side so: 2 congruent angles plus 1 congruent side= ASA. Do you agree @jadeybells

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it also can't be SSS because not all of the sides are congruent. ABC and ABD share two congruent sides and one congruent angle. @jojo9999

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ruling out SSS, ASA and AAA it'd be SAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The reason there's only one congruent angle is because where angle A of ABC and angle A of ABD meet it counts as only one angle. So ABC = ABD by SAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought angle B was congruent on both sides though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope! angle B is more acute in ABD than angle B in ABC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I just assumed they were congruent and that the picture was just drawn bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok @AquaStone316 go with SAS, then let us know what the correct answer turns out to be:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jojo9999 was right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Man :/ I'm not as smart as I thought. Sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its not your fault @jadeybells it was a little hard to answer because the triangles were drawn by hand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kay, thanks, I guess :)
