we know that the potential difference across the battery is 5V. Assuming that the wire has no resistance, then the resistors are the only other elements in this circuit where there can be a potential difference. In general the resistance of each resistor does not have to be the same. In this picture the green is a potential of 5V and the grey has a potential of 0V.
