Why won't anyone answer my question? Please help!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don;t understand what feasibility means or the question in general...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zepdrix @texaschic101

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

feasibility region is the shown shaded region in graph

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

the shaded region looks like a "convex polygon" right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First of all I would like to thank you so much for responding :) Oh and yes, the shaded region does look like that...is that a hint to finding the answer? What do I do next?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

no, thats not a hint, thats just an observation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh..

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

here is the hint : maximum/minimum value occurs at vertices of that polygon

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

it has four vertices, right ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

P = x-2y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

just evaluate above function at all vertices

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

(8, 0) is one vertex, lets evaluate the function at this vertex : P = x - 2y = 8 - 2*0 = 8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

similarly, find the function value at other vertices also

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, what does that mean

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

can u list down other vertices ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(8, 2) is another one

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

(8, 2) is another vertex (2, 8) is another vertex (-0.5, 0) is another vertex

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2, 8) and (0, 2 ) right?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

evaluate the given function P, at these vertices and see wat u get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh opps, I looked at that wrong

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

:) evaluate the function at those vertices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P = x - 2y = 8 - 2*0 = 8 So = = x -2y = 2 - 2*8 = -14? For the coordinates (2, 8)? Sorry if this is wrong...I'm kinda bad at math..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes, -14 is the value for (2, 8) evaluate it at other two vertices also

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

whatever the lowest value u get, thats the minimum possible value for given function wid given constraints

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(8, 2) p = x -2y = 8 - 2*2 = 4 right? Now so far we have 4, -14 and 8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

correct ! evaluate the value at remaining last vertex also

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-0.5, 0) p =x -2y = -0.5 - 2*0 = -0.5. But -0.5 is not one of the options....what did I do wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

why do we care if it is in the options or not

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

whats the lowest among below values ? 4, -14, 8, -0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean by 'left'?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

-14 is \(\large \color{red}{\checkmark}\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

nvm, it was a typo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You sooo much for helping me!!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np... u wlc :)
