Was the United States Justified in Going to War with Mexico?

to be vague,During the Mexican-American war there was the large dispute with Mexico about where the border was between the USA and Mexico. Usa the border was at the Rio Grande and Mexico said it was at the Nuez River. The Usa sent troops to protect the border at the Rio Grande and were attacked by Mexicans who were waiting to defend. When american president and generals found out they held a full scale invasion of Mexico and ended up taking a third of its territory. So what do you think?
