OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73 #20 was the problem i was confused for w/ the chart..... i dont understand how to like subtract to get 7/8

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I continued the calculations for one more step in both directions (I calculated for x = -2 and x = 6) -2 -0.9375 -1 -0.875 0 -0.75 1 -0.5 2 0 3 1 4 3 5 7 6 15 and the graph is attached. One thing you could really use is Open Office. It is downloadable here: http://www.openoffice.org/download/ It is 100% free and well worth downloading. See the series of numbers I posted and the graph? I did that all with Open Office.

thankss so much but what i am confused on is how to do 1/8 -1

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

As for calculating 2^(x-2) -1 Let's try it for x = -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

For 2^(x-2) -1 when x=-1 we have 2^(-1-2) -1 which becomes 2^(-3) -1 2^-3 is 1/8 1/8 -1 = 7/8

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

-7/8 I mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but how do you subtract 1/8-1 to get 7/8??

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Okay you are subtracting -1 from 1/8 -1 = -8/8 So you have -8/8 +1/8 = 7/8

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

-7/8 ARRGGHHHHH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ommgg thxx now i get it

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Okay - glad I could help :-)
