how many ways can you award 1st 2nd and 3rd place to 8 contestants? You are doing permutations/ Combinations

For first place, there are 8 possible people to take the spot which leaves 7 for second place and 6 for third. Multiply 8 * 7 * 6 to find how many possible combinations there are.
