i need help on x-y=-5. what do i do?

OpenStudy (hrhsbull):

make the y positive by adding to both sides and then move the five to the x so it will be x+5=y

While that is the correct response I don't think it will be much help. I suggest you read http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/index.html

OpenStudy (hrhsbull):

i was right??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so like does it matter if it equals to negative 5.

OpenStudy (hrhsbull):

the x and y can not be on the same sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, the x and the y need to be different.

Written how it was at first, you're looking for 2 numbers such that when you subtract one from the other, you get -5. The other way might be easier to see. You're looking for a number that's 5 steps farther than the other one.

thanks:)
