Well when you say ' which of these amounts' We usually expect some of these amounts as options along with the question. Its highly probable thats what he means to say.

And if it helps, and its a slightly economic question, chances are, he will have less then he had before because of taxes and other charges placed upon exchanging currency. Exchanging it twice for the reason would cause him to lose a lot in the process.
