Find an equation for the nth term of the arithmetic sequence. -17, -13, -9, -5,

hartnn (hartnn):

do you see any pattern in that sequence ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there's the difference of 4 in between each of the numbers?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, so common difference for this Arithmetic sequence is d= +4 first term = a1= -17 just plug this in the formula \(\Large a_n = a_1+(n-1)d\) and simplify :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ a _{n} = -17 + 4(n - 1) \] Like this?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes! just simplify that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^

hartnn (hartnn):

hope u got 4n-21 as final answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did! Thanks :) Though I only needed to solve the problem to the answer that I got up there^^
