ALG.2 HELP PLEASEE! 1.Two fellow students, Theo and Paula, have added two rational expressions. They ended up at different answers so they have asked you to check their work. Please explain to them any errors that you find. the picture is below! 2.Wally knows that in order to add or subtract rational expressions, he has to find the least common denominator first. Unfortunately, he can not remember how to do that. Using complete sentences, explain to Wally how to find least common denominators. Make sure you clearly explain any important items to co

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, what error did you find? this sounds like a 'common core' question to me ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well like theos looks wrong but I just cant figure out where

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the third line is off ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its cause the x+2 right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep, the left term was fine, but they modified it using nonMath principles ... they simply did something they thought they knew how to do instead of following actual mathematical principals.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Pauls is making up her own stuff as well ... but in different places :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

*Paula .....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh goodness so they are both wrong? /:

OpenStudy (amistre64):

both are making up stuff as they go along ... what they needed to do was pay attention during class instead of sneaking out to the bleachers ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is up with Paula on lines 5 and 6? its just idiocy to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... idk if they should cancel...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

spose we want to add 2 fractions ... thats all this amounts to doing: \[\frac{2}{15}+\frac{1}{5}\] \[THEO:\\\frac{2}{15}+\frac{1}{5}\] \[\frac{2}{5*3}*\frac 51+\frac{1}{5}*\frac 33~:~????\] \[Paula:\\\frac{2}{15}+\frac{1}{5}\] \[\frac{2}{5*3}+\frac{1}{5}*\frac 33\] \[\frac{2}{5*3}+\frac{3}{5*3}\] \[\frac{2}{5*3}+\frac{5*3}{3}~???\] \[\frac{2}{\cancel{5*3}}+\frac{\cancel{5*3}}{3}~???\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

instead of doing math, they are trying to memorize patterns that they saw when others were doing math. They arent learning how to work the problems, they are trying to see patterns when people do solutions.

I so sorry for the late reply...my internet has been down
