Milligram (mg) is a derived metric SI (System International) unit of mass. There are very many weights that one milligram can be equated to. One milligram is equal to one thousandth of a gram (10-3g). It is also equal to 1 000 000 000 picograms, 1 000 000 nanograms, 1 000 micrograms, or 1 * 10 -6 kilograms.
ask yourself what does mg stand for? The SI units have a standard set of prefixes for factors many are in common use: k = kilo = x10^3 e.g. km = kilometre M= mega = x10^6 e.g. MW = megawatt m = milli = x10^-3 e.g. mm = millimeter µ = micro = *10-6 e.g. µF = microfarad
