HELP? Examine the sentences below and explain the differences verb tense choice makes in their meaning. 1. By the time David turns five, he will have been playing with Legos for two years. 2. When David turns five, he will have played with Legos for two years.

Sentence 1 implies that David will continue playing with Legos when he turns five. Sentence 2 states how long he has played with Legos and implies that he will continue to do so. C. Sentence 1 implies that David will play with Legos until he turns five. Sentence 2 states how long he has played with Legos but does not imply that he will continue to do so. D. "1. By the time David turns five, he will have been playing with Legos for two years." This doesn't mean he isn't going to stop as soon as he turns five, this means it isn't A or C. Now it's either B or D Which one do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Close, it's actually D, because Played is past tense implying he did, not done or doing.

ohhhhh. okay. makes sense now. thank you~
