Step 3, you add 25 to both sides, \(\ 5x - 25 = 15 \rightarrow 5x + (\dfrac{\cancel{-25}}{\cancel{+25}}) = 15 + 25 \) 5x = 40 \(\ \rightarrow\) \(\ \dfrac{\cancel{5}x}{\cancel{5}} = \dfrac{40}{5} \rightarrow x = 8 \)
