find the vertex and the focus of the quadratic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A) (2, 0), (0, 2) B) (0, 2), (0, 2) C) (0, 0), (0, -2) D) (2, 0), (2,0)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(x^2 = 4ay\) represents a parabola whose origin is \((0, 0)\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

look at ur options, only one option has origin at (0, 0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so that would be C) vertex (0,0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the table is very helpful , I'll save it

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you can find out the focus from the table as well : \(x^2 = -8y\) \(y = \frac{1}{4(-2)}x^2\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

that gives \(c = -2\) look at the table, focus = \((0, c) = (0, -2)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so this is how I can get the y

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes, always change the equation to one of given forms in the table..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it, thank you so much @ganeshie8 for your help, again :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :)
