Read Exodus 32:1-9. What can we learn from this incident for our lives today?

When a Individual or Group losses it's Center a little chaos ensues until it can reform a new Center. In an individual its call cognitive dissonance, where an individual tries to make some sense of what going on or happened and come to terms acceptable to their self. A Old Testament saying is "Strike the Shepard and the Sheep will scatter", that's why we have Presidents, Vice Presidents, Speakers of the House, and so on. Also in the military when the officer in charge dies the next in line takes command. When a person losses their "faith", especially with themselves, its very difficult to get it back and some end up with permanent psychiatric problems or adopt a group, generally religious, to which to regain some form of faith in reality.
