What are some good resources for writing fiction novels?
here are some tips from me just liking to write 1) have a thesaurus close by. 2)write with the door closed edit with the door open 3) when you have your story edited by someone else the more marks, corrections, and opinions the better the only way to learn how to write better is to know what you need to work on and work on it 4) take a writing class, or just know parts of writing, even knowing how to write basic poetry has made me a better prose writer 5)show don't tell, this one always gets to me, when people write like first graders,(the man had brown hair and blue eyes, and he was wearing a tux.) that's listing things. take a huge leaf from j.k. Rowling's books and show what characters are like with actions, (the woman flipped her blond hair, straightened her pink jacket and bravely walked into the office.) its not much harder and can help the story come to life.
What a wonderful way to start! @kenzylee :) I'm a professional illustrator and writer! ~ When I was a little girl, I was determined to become the best writer in the world- of course that didn't happen. But I was so eager to publish my own book - and little did I know how hard it really was! But I was so determined that I eventually started writing letters to my favorite authors- and what do you know? They all wrote back giving me advice and how I can become the perfect writer I can possibly be! - I was only a fourth grader at the time but I took their words seriously.... *READ, read, and READ -by reading more books by different authors you discover their style of writing- and you can look at how each writer has their own and unique way of writing. (It takes a long time to find your own style.)- but this will help you find yours. :) *WRITE ~ never stop writing. Even if you have absolutely nothing to write about- write a letter to your best friend. Writing is the key. Don't let a day go by without writing a few sentences. :) *DISCOVER ~ look back at all the classic writers of fiction. Why did their books become known for centuries? What made their works so important and how can your writing do the same? Go beyond the dusty old book covers discover a whole new world to writing. *Explore- beyond what is expected of you to do. Don't let your imagination stop running. Think wild! I noticed that you can have such a unique story just by pushing down the boundaries of reality. Who says the sky can't be purple? Or humans can't breath underwater? And remember to write down your thoughts. - keep a diary with you or a journal. This is how your writing can connect with you. - and how you can make your words emotional and true. :) * Detail- everybody loves a good book that you can taste what the main character is about to eat for breakfast! - but then again straight to the point is also good when you want to crawl on suspense and excitement! "Sarah was eaten by a bear." - the reader is already interested in why did Sarah get eaten by a bear and how? You always want to draw the reader in at the first sentence of your story. Oh and here's an extra tip! After you write something- hide your writing a way and don't look at it for about two weeks or a month. Once the month has passed find that old writing of yours and see if you've grown in your ability to write or how you can make that piece of writing better. :) I hope this helps! I wish you the best of luck!!! :)
