Math Homework? As always I'll reward a medal ._. Determine which relation is a function. A. {(–5, 1), (–5, 0), (–2, 1), (–1, 4), (6, 2)} B. {(–5, 1), (–2, 0), (–2, 2), (3, 4), (6, 2)} C. {(–5, 1), (–2, 0), (–1, 1), (2, 4), (6, 3)} D. {(–5, 3), (–2, 0), (–1, 2), (6, 4), (6, 3)}

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

A function is a relation such that one x-value only corresponds to one y-value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A function is a graph that doesn't have two y values for one x value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. So a direct answer would be?.....

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

C but the answer means nothing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for your help anyway I guess. I'll fan you both. And the medal goes to kenny.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

A is not a function because it has two values of y associated with the same value of x: (-5,1) and (-5,0) B is not a function because it has two values of y associated with the same value of x: (-2,0) and (-2,2) D is not a function because, well, you know: (6,4) and (6,3) C is the only one that doesn't fail the function test.

Thank you. A well explained answer :DD
