Why were Loyalists willing to support continued British rule but Patriots were not?

It's simply because the Patriots wanted didn't wanted to be ruled by the king. The Loyalists wanted to continued to be ruled under the kings commands. The Patriots wanted independence.

People were probably scared to start a new country because it'd be known as treason and some people were scared of having the country survive on it's own.
