I am a beginner in writing and I would really love to write a fictional story based on the supernatural world. Can you guys give me advice? Also like sources where I can find information of things supernatural (:
More than a story I actually wanna write a book I have written short stories before but they were more romantic and I wanna try something new
@HelpBlahBlahBlah I saw in your profile that you like to read (: do you think you can give me advice based on what you have read
What does supernatural mean lol?
vampires, werewolves, ghosts (i think ghosts are more paranormal but still lol), faeries, etc.
cant you do your own work

you help me and i'll help you
I already tried to help you but you just want an answer :/
can you tell one i can eliminate that's all
I think there should be a good 15- 20 chapters. I think each chapter should be 10-20 pages. I think each page should be like 300-400 words.
I was planning on 50 chapters (: and yeah 10 pages sounds reasonable the book im currently reading has about 8 pages per chapter so i might do 8-10
oh....nice

Hello @lostintime! :) I am a writer and illustrator myself. I work for CreateSpace and AuthorHouse (an independent publishing company.) When I was a little girl, I was determined to become the best writer in the world- of course that didn't happen. But I was so eager to publish my own book - and little did I know how hard it really was! But I was so determined that I eventually started writing letters to my favorite authors- and what do you know? They all wrote back giving me advice and how I can become the perfect writer I can possibly be! - I was only a fourth grader at the time but I took their words seriously.... *READ, read, and READ -by reading more books by different authors you discover their style of writing- and you can look at how each writer has their own and unique way of writing. (It takes a long time to find your own style.)- but this will help you find yours. :) *WRITE ~ never stop writing. Even if you have absolutely nothing to write about- write a letter to your best friend. Writing is the key. Don't let a day go by without writing a few sentences. :) *DISCOVER ~ look back at all the classic writers of fiction. Why did their books become known for centuries? What made their works so important and how can your writing do the same? Go beyond the dusty old book covers discover a whole new world to writing. *Explore- beyond what is expected of you to do. Don't let your imagination stop running. Think wild! I noticed that you can have such a unique story just by pushing down the boundaries of reality. Who says the sky can't be purple? Or humans can't breath underwater? And remember to write down your thoughts. - keep a diary with you or a journal. This is how your writing can connect with you. - and how you can make your words emotional and true. :) * Detail- everybody loves a good book that you can taste what the main character is about to eat for breakfast! - but then again straight to the point is also good when you want to crawl on suspense and excitement! "Sarah was eaten by a bear." - the reader is already interested in why did Sarah get eaten by a bear and how? You always want to draw the reader in at the first sentence of your story. Oh and here's an extra tip! After you write something- hide your writing a way and don't look at it for about two weeks or a month. Once the month has passed find that old writing of yours and see if you've grown in your ability to write or how you can make that piece of writing better. :) I hope this helps! I wish you the best of luck!!! :)
@Rayven1995 I am a psychic medium (: I would love to talk to someone like you who understands me.
@linda3 I definatly do all of those things (: thank you only one problem. lets say i write an introduction before the actual chapters begin can i write it in 3rd perspective and then make the actual chapters in 1st? My book is going to be all in 3rd perspective but just in case i change my mind. ALSO, my mom's friend also published her books through createspace, have you published yours books?
*your oops
you can do whatever you want with your book! :) No i have not published my actual book it's still in the process- but I have illustrated books that are in the shops! :) One will be a young adult sci-fi novel coming out in May! :)
Oh! Sounds cool! Last question lol im sorry, Once I am done and I publish through createspace can my editor be an adult family member or friend of my family? like do they have to be a professional?
you can have any editor you want. But what your going to need to get your book in the shops is an agent.
Like psychical stores or online?
No, once you get published through CreateSpace you can pay extra to have your book on Amazon- Creatspace is the sister company of Amazon. You'll need an agent for your book to be in book stores like barns and noble to represent you and your work- other wise it's all independent promoting your own work. (which stores will turn you don if you are not signed by an agent.) It's a very complicated process but if your mom's best friend is a writer you should definitely talk with her! :)
My mom's friend used CreatSpace to publish on Amazon and she only had to pay extra to put her books in book stores they even have them in India :P
awesome! Congratulation for her! - but no matter if you put it online or in the stores you still have to pay money for them to keep your book up online and in stores. You will have to also pay for the ISBN number, and for them to distribute your book- sadly getting your book out there isn't free- https://www.createspace.com/ but don't lose hope! There's this other website you can go to that do a lot of fan writing and you can publish your own novels online for free! :) http://www.wattpad.com/ I wish you the best of luck!
:/ im so confused now cause she didnt have to do any of this and i have the app for wattpad love reading fanfics there
^Yeah same my mom didn't have to do any of that I am confused as well now
Also consider doing some research, such as Googling and researching factual history about vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural medium. The more accurate you are, the more fans you'll receive. To my knowledge, I know vampires do NOT sparkle like glitter-fairies when their skin hits sunlight, so do something more accurate, unlike the Twilight saga. I haven't heard really good ghost stories, lately. Maybe take an adventurous route.? I'm writing a fiction novel, with the setting based in Italy and the United States, about huntsmen who kill weak people that they capture. It's a "survival of the fittest" sort of thing, not like the Hunger Games - it isn't food related. It's about an empire that sorts through various potential hunters that will form an elite army. I'm nowhere near finished, but it's a start. Teen fiction.!
Then I think you girls might be getting a bit confused.... okay when a book is sold online on Amazon- the full amount of money does not go to you. Part of that money goes to Amazon- because Amazon is the one that is hosting your book. What you will receive from your book is what you call Royalties - a payment method. Amazon needs a way of making money off your book- it's not "free". If a person buys your $15 book- a portion of that book goes to Amazon. You can do some more research on Royalties and what not. I hope I cleared up the confusion for you guys here! :)
@linda3 That isn't what I was referring to, but that's good to know.
lol @Irizzi I'm sorry but I wasn't referring to you. xD I was talking to @mysticghost and @lostintime :) I like what you had to say :)
Yes thats it Linda lol! I asked her and this is what she explained to me thank you so much for everything (:
Your most very welcome! :)
