Prokaryotes use operons to coordinate gene expression needed for the same metabolic process. Operons control gene ratios for metabolic efficiency. This means adjacent genes, on the same operon, are produced in stoichiometric amounts to avoid the formation of incomplete or unproductive complexes that are missing a component.
