medal for answer- Write the expression in standard form. Also determine the degree of the polyomial 2x3-4x+12x2-17- wrote it out three times and got 3 different answers ..

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

rewrite the expression so the exponents are in descending order, with the constant term last. degree of a polynomial is the degree of the term with the highest degree. the degree of a term is the sum of all of the variable exponents in the term. Don't forget that we typically write \(x^1\) as \(x\), but it still has an exponent of 1.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

so the degree of \(x^3y^2z = 6\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this the expression ? x3 Y2 z And then the degree is 6 ?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

No, that was just an example. \[2x^3-4x+12x^2-17\]What is the term with the largest exponent?
