The period means 'how long is the pattern before it starts over again'.

With your graph it starts at 2 and ends at 6. Then it repeats. So it's period is 4.

It's like the smallest repetition. Kind of like if you had a necklace with 2 red beads and 2 white beads and then it just repeated with 2 red beads followed by 2 white beads. The beads would have a period of 4.
