A 992.0-g iron meteor impacts the earth at a speed of 1447.0 m/s. If its energy is entirely converted to heat of the meteorite, what will the resultant temperature rise be? (The specific heat for iron is 113 cal/kg.C)

OpenStudy (gebooors):

Kinetic energy of meteor is 0.5 mv^2. This is equal to Heat absorbed of meteor Q = m C delta T. Delta T is change of temperature. Note that you have to convert cal to joules.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 2214 C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That looks correct, @Emineyy.
