2x+3x=0, What is X?

OpenStudy (ankit042):

add the two and you will get 5x=0 now can you solve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I knew the answer, I was just checking how this website works.

I assume you need to find x? You can use the quadratic equation, however in this case you can also use decomposition factoring. 2x^2 - 3x -2 =2x^2 - 4x + x - 2 (you want the sum of the middle coefficients to equal the product of the first and last coefficients) =2x(x-2) + x - 2 =(2x + 1)(x - 2) Therefore, (2x + 1)(x - 2)=0 So, 2x + 1 = 0, x = -1/2 Or x - 2 = 0, x = 2 Therefore, x= -1/2 or 2

OpenStudy (ankit042):

Good for you and now how do you rate it? if that matters lol

@MLKakadiya did this help?

@jordanloveangle Read the Question?

X= 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, X =0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2x+1)(x-2)=0 x= -1/2 , 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^2 - 3x -2 = 0 2x^2 -4x + x -2 = 0 2x( x-2 ) + 1( x-2 ) = 0 (2x + 1) (x-2) = 0 so, x=-1/2 or x=2... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG! on right hand side, its 2x + 3x i.e. equal to 5x and left hand side its 0 so 5x=0 and in order to find x you divide both side by 5, you get x=0. The answer is 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LMAO!

LOL
