1. Explain the physics behind a thermostat that functions using a bimetallic strip.

OpenStudy (radar):

The bimetallic strip is composed of two layers of different metals with different expansion rates. As temperature changes these different coefficient of expansion rate will cause the bimetallic strip to distort and bend making contacts in an electrical circuit turning on an air conditioner or heater whatever the case may be.
