MEDAL AWARD. Suppose that you take care of pets for vacationing neighbors each summer. You charge 15 dollars per day to feed and walk a dog, and 5 dollars per day to feed other pets. You know that you can care for at most 10 pets per day and you want to earn at least 30 dollars per day. Write a system of linear inequalities that describes the situation for x dogs and y pets other than dogs.

OpenStudy (j2lie):

x+y=10 5x+5y=30

OpenStudy (j2lie):

i can't really explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought it would be x+y < or equal to 10 and 15x+5y < or equal to 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let x = dogs and y = other pets. you were right: x + y < or equal to 10. but for the amount you want to make, you want to earn at least, but possibly more than 30, so use 15d + 5p > or equal to 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 15x + 5y > or equal to 30
