What does congruent mean?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Same size and same shape is what I remember my teacher telling me in elementary school, don't know if that's still what they're teaching or what but I bet it's pretty close.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@Kainui Thanks! Can you help with one more? What does similar mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its same shape and zize

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The same shape and size. Two shapes are congruent if you can Turn, Flip and/or Slide one so it fits exactly on the other. In this example the shapes are congruent (you only need to flip one over and move it a little)

OpenStudy (kainui):

Similar means it's the same shape but not necessarily the same size. For example, all circles are similar. these triangles are similar. |dw:1396967382757:dw| Since you can squeeze or stretch them equally to make them fit on the other one.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Thank you :) Are the following triangles similar? Justify? http://www.aventalearning.com/courses/GEOMx-HS-A09/b/assessments/S-SimilarityQuiz/Geometry_6.2.8_Quiz_FINAL_5q.gif

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@YanaSidlinskiy help?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

With what?? Isn't it answered already?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Are the triangles similar?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes, they are because if you flip them, or put them on top of each other they will be the same. The distance in between them does NOT matter!!!
