How does sales tax help the economy?

Sales tax is basically GST- extra disposable income that is sent off to the governement in consuming a good or service. The governemnt can then use these collected funds to redistribute salaries to the un or underemployed and pensioners in the form of welfare or transfer payments. So it spreads out income over the economy.
