Chromosomes are made up of DNA and several different types of protein which hold the DNA together into the chromosome structure. Having chromosomes means that genes are kept in the same location from generation to generation and are able to interact correctly with other genes and regulatory DNA sequences. here's an explanation if you don't understand.
