You can use filtration separation. A simple at home method is to use one of those coffee filters (or one of those cleaning wipe tissues), dump the heterogeneous mixture slowly in increments onto the filter and allow the water to sink into the cup (obviously placing the filter on top of a cup or something. The reasoning is that the smaller particles (Water) will travel thru the filter, while the more larger particles (sand/ salt) will remain on the filter since they are not small enough to fit thru the pores of the filter.
