Try to limit the use of bold and italics to the strict minimum. The use of bold to highlight key phrases in the text is best avoided. In general, use italics sparingly and avoid using for emphasis, as too much becomes counter-productive. Bold is not very common amongst poetry. Italics (which is used for either emphasis, titles of books/plays/films, titles of newspapers or periodicals, or any word or phrase that is a in a different language/Latin) and underlining are more suitable, when used properly and sparignly. Bold is used in some playwrights for a name of the character within the play.
