A CD usually sells for $15.00. If the CD is 10% off, and sales tax is 8%, what is the total price of the CD, including tax?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To find the sale price, we would multiply 15 by 10%, or .1 and subtract that, because it's 10% off. doing that, we get $13.50. Then, for the tax, we would multiply the sales price by 8%, or .08, and it to the original sales price, giving the final price, which is $14.58

In January, the depth of a lake was 1,180 feet. In August, the depth of the lake was 1,003 feet. What is the percentage decrease of the depth of the lake from January to August? @Col2718 and @texaschic101

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

or.. if you get 10% off, your paying 90% 90% of 15 = .90(15) = 13.5 and the sales tax would be found by : .08(13.5)....you would get the same answer as above

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

percent decrease formula : (older - newer) / older .... times 100. (1180 - 1003) / 1003 177/1003 = 0.176 0.176 x 100 = 17.6%
