Help now please How did the work of the slave affect america?

OpenStudy (linda3):

Slaves were a big part of the beginning of America. Slaves were used in the southern colonies as a labor source to help the plantations of Cotton and other tradable crops. It was a market of money, trading, and plantation. Slaves were considered property instead of people- which slaves could be even traded or sold to take off debts. Even though there were many slaves in he southern colony- Most southern's owned fewer than 5 slaves. And not to mention most slaves were happy to be slaves because they were able to eat, have shelter, and clothing. But an out cry broke out- that slavery should be banned. The revolt of slaves grew and a book was published by Harriet Beecher Stowe - Uncle Tom's Cabin, a book that revealed to the Northern colonies the horror's of a slave life. Even Lincoln himself said the book was what stirred up the Civil War- up the Civil War was mainly to preserve the Union- In which most Southern Colonies fought against and seceded from the Union not wanted to be under the government of the United States at the time. But slavery was one of the largest issues in the American History. I hope this helped! :)

I loved this course American History. It's the best course I've ever taken! I still remember that only 1 percent of the southern population were plantation owners. I went to many places in the South America, and saw Cotton, Tea and other plantations... The "slaves" i.e Africans (as you already know) were actually transported from England or Great Britain, to America, it was known as a triangular trade or something like that:) The affect of a slave work on America seems to be good, because they are a cheap source of labor; although in reality all of these cotton plantations and slaves and all that was not very good (not only from moral point of view, but also ) from an industrial point of view, and the point of view of the development of the economy, so to speak. North had machines and factories... businesses and etc., and South America had primitive plantations of Cotton, that were wasting tons of space and (I'll tell you more) that if the owner was to pay the slaves a normal payment as to a worker (not as to a slave) all these plantations would have bankrupted. The should have used slaves for factories .(not that they should have used slaves... NOO!! I only mean that economically it would have been better). I can type and type :)
