How many solutions are there for the equation? x^2 + 9x = -7 2 1 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since given is a quadratic equation, hence it will have two solutions

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

We can figure that out by using the discriminant... also known as \(\large b^2 - 4ac\) from the quadratic equation if the answer is > 0 we have 2 real solutions if the answer is = 0 we have 1 real solution So take your equation...x^2 + 9x + 7 a = 1 b = 9 c = 7 (those are just the coefficients of the equation...... and plug those in and see what you get

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

So we have \[\large 9^2 - 4(1)(7)\] \[\large 81 - 28\] \[\large 53\] Since that is > 0 we have 2 real solutions :)
