Why is it important not to disregard differing views of historical topics when you find them in conflicting sources?

It goes back to the bias question -- each person may have a slightly different account of the story they want to tell.

But together, the differences may have the missing details that fill in the whole picture. Not all of the details may be important, but it's worthwhile to ask why they are there and follow the breadcrumbs to create as complete a story as possible. It's a lot like investigating a news story or a crime.
