Describe how the graphs of functions f and g are related: f(x) = 2cos(pix) g(x) = 2cos(2pix)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty lost on this one, I've never seen a function set up like this before.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

funct ions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As far as I can tell the only difference is g(x) = 2cos(2pix) has a different period.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But it says to describe how they are related, not necessarily how they are different. Although it could mean the same thing?

hero (hero):

They want you to describe g(x) in reference to f(x)

hero (hero):

g(x) is the graph of f(x) except it is either stretched or compressed by a factor of 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so it is stretched because it is greater than 1.

hero (hero):

Great job.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks again Hero, I'm new here but I'm happy to have people like you in this community :)

hero (hero):

So the way you say it exactly is "g(x) is the graph of f(x) stretched by a factor of 2"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly what I was thinking ;) Well, that was my last problem. Have a great day!

hero (hero):

Enjoy the rest of your evening. Thanks for visiting :)
