Can someone review this and help me write a conclusion for this speech? please! I perform tomorrow in class!
Controversy with social media networking sites is not a new issue by any means. What seems to be on a lot of people’s minds is just how it is being used. There are always pros and cons with any source of media being used to get messages out to the whether it is marketing or sharing of information about what is happening around us. How do you feel about the use of social media networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook to get news worthy information out to the public? While there are risks inherent in online social networking, there are also many potential benefits. Social networking can provide opportunities for new relationships as well as strengthening existing relationships, whether your friends and family are close to home or across the world. It’s important to be vigilant when you are getting involved in online social networking, but it’s also good to encourage positive relationships through various avenues, including the Internet. A lot of criticism has been leveled at social media and the effect it has on the way students process and retain information, as well as how distracting it can be. However, social media offers plenty of opportunities for learning and interactivity, and if you take a moment to think about it, it’s not too hard to see how students benefit from using social media. As younger generations use such technology in the classroom, they remake the educational landscape. Students are experiencing the world through more than just books and assignments; they are learning and adapting to the world using a relatively new form of communication. Proponents of using social networking for instruction say there’s an added incentive. In 2011, the U.S. Department of Education released its National Education Technology Plan, which includes a proposal to use social networking as a platform for learning. The plan urges educators to leverage the learning sciences and modern technology to create engaging, relevant, and personalized learning experiences for all learners that mirror students’ daily lives and the reality of their futures. Also, I honestly can’t remember the last time I sat down and watched an entire news program on TV, but I can tell you it hasn’t been anytime recently. I get all of my breaking news from Twitter, which sometimes means that I don’t know the full story but I know a really good joke about it. Most of the time, social media is as fast, if not faster, than “regular” news outlets. When the Aurora movie theater shooting happened, social media users were posting updates before the news crews could even arrive at the scene. But it’s not just news of national tragedies that break on social media – it can be random stuff. Like Craig Breslow, MLB player, who learned of his trade to the Arizona Diamondbacks via social media. And….a lot of other examples. You get the point. Social media is a powerful tool for spreading information. It reaches faster and farther than any communication method to date. Social media such as Facebook have quickly become one of the most effective political campaign tools in the country. From the presidential race to small-town elections, Facebook, especially, has proved to be an effective medium for candidates to get the word - and the vote - out on Election Day. A study by a professor at the University of California in San Diego, conducted with the cooperation of Facebook in 2010, revealed the power of social networking and how it can affect elections. The professor, James Fowler, sent a message to news feeds of 60 million Facebook users in California. It encouraged people to vote, and included a button that, when clicked, displayed an “I Voted” message. When “I Voted” was clicked, a counter was activated that tracked how many others clicked the button. Fowler told the journal Nature that later research of public voting records indicated turnout increased by 280,000 people.
