Just needing an opinion here; I used to do horrible in math (like D's & F's b/c of lack of motivation, etc.), but now that I've taken beginner and intermediate alg in college, I've actually grown to ENJOY it. I want to be able to take calculus, but first I have to take college-level alg. What other classes/tips would you recommend me taking before I get into calculus? Thank you so much!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By the way, I really want to take meteorology some day which is also another reason why I'll need to take calculus and other math classes. I'm also trying to push myself to get out of my comfort zone and be challenged... just needing some advice, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks to whoever reads all my crap hahaha

OpenStudy (bibby):

I can't recommend any classes but I can recommend youtube and other online resources. You can get ahead of the rest of the class and learn some calculus 1 concepts early.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll take whatever advice/tips/motivation I can! What's the YouTube channel? :)

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

I recommend Geometry, Trig, precalc. As well as watching all of the khan academy videos on calc prior to the course

OpenStudy (bibby):

PatrickJMT, khanacademy are the most popular. There's also integralcalc and a few other (lesser known) channels producing equally great content

Thank you @FibonacciChick666 :) Is trig really difficult?? I'm just so scared I'll forget everything.. that's my problem, I never remember the rules and formulas long enough it seems.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sounds fantastic, @bibby ! I've heard of Khan Academy many times. Guess it's time I actually check it out!!

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

Well, it's all about doing it over and over and over again. You really need to be an expert at algebra and then some trig. I personally didn't find trig too bad.

OpenStudy (bibby):

That's the advice you're going to hear time and time again ^ You don't really learn math without repeatedly doing problems. Making your own problems. Looking on the internet for problems. etc.

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

so true bibbs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Another issue I have is getting so p.o. and unmotivated when I mess up or can't understand a concept. But yes, practice makes perfect, that's for sure! About how many hours a day do you guys spend on math/studying, if you don't mind me asking? @bibby @FibonacciChick666

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

uhm I am a really bad student who was lucky to have some natural ability so I'm not really one to go by. I never spent time out of class on it, but once I hit a class I didn't understand, I spent like 20 or more hours a week on it

OpenStudy (bibby):

I finished math for major after Calc 2. I haven't been motivated to do anything in a while. It's different for everyone. I don't study until the night before a test.

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

but i really recommend Khan academy for it. It is absolutely excellent. Paul's online calculus notes is also really good

OpenStudy (bibby):

If you have the time and attention span to read, a textbook + paul should be fine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is exactly how I am @bibby haha!! The queen of procrastination, which I've come to regret many times with my full load of 15 credits. And I'm so jealous @FibonacciChick666 I feel like I forget everything sometimes... haha. Will def be checking into that Khan stuff. ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks again guys, so much!! Wish I could give you both a medal. What if I give one of you a medal, and then the other can give the other one a medal to be fair ?? Haha!

OpenStudy (bibby):

It's ok. We're basically dating. We're together. An item. You give one of us a medal, you give the other a medal

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

haha yup :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hahaha!! Thanks for the medal @FibonacciChick666 ! Lmao! We are now officially a part of eachother. Forever now.... xD

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

but I am always happy to help someone who is willing to put the effort in to learn something, so if you have any questions, please tag me and I'll give you a hand

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!! I def will. Gonna go fangirl ya'lls profiles now. I'm sure I'll be on here plenty more times with dumb Q's. Haha. :)

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

so long as you're trying, there are no dumb Q's. I frequently ask what 6*8 is so for reals, it's cool
