a potter's wheel radius of .5 m and mass 100 kg is freely rotating at 50 rev/min. The potter can stop the wheel in 6 sec by pressing a wet rag against the rim. What is the angular acceleration? The answer is -.837 rounded, but I can't figure out where the negative came from since direction is not mentioned in the problem. Is this just assumed in my textbook, or am I missing a sign?
