Medals awarded> Why was an electoral college needed instead of allowing Congress to directly elect the President?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Congress members would benefit from choosing a president that aligned with their views, as a president has to sign bills that go through congress. Electoral college members, while pledged to a candidate, are pledged on a winner-take-all system based on the popular vote, rather than their own personal opinion (however, they can vote by their own opinion but this rarely occurs). Hope this helps!

Thank you for the medal @kewlgeek555 ! I don't really care about medals (I just want to help people) but I do like being acknowledged, so thanks! :)

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Well, I know how you feel about just wanting to help, but people shouldn't make promises they can't keep, my dear. ;)
