If you were to pour 4 different liquids into a glass and the liquids separated into 4 layers, which liquid would have the highest density?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A the layer at the bottom of the glass B the third layer from the bottom of the glass C the second layer from the bottom of the glass

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

isn't it clear that the highest density is going to either be the top or the bottom layer?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

if density is the only thing that affects where the layer ends up?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If you have a glass of lemonade or tea and you pour in some honey (which has a higher density than water), does the honey float on top, or sink to the bottom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wont it go to the bottom..

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

It will, because the denser liquids will sink. This is why it is easier to swim in the ocean instead of a freshwater lake or pool — the density of the ocean water is higher, which makes you more buoyant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ou could say the liquids at the bottom are denser than the ones towards the top. (I think this is what your asking.) so the correct answer is A the layer at the bottom of the glass
