Algebra 16 Online
OpenStudy (andijo76):

5-2b=-7 -5-6b=-9

OpenStudy (andijo76):

its elimination again... :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Elimination??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay Let us do it then..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think 'a' is missing there.. What do you think??

OpenStudy (andijo76):

oops yup its 5a-2b=-7 -5a-6b=-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here, firstly you have to just add the two equations and you will see that a is getting eliminated.. Can you add the two equations there??

OpenStudy (andijo76):

but the negative would it be -2=-7? or no

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

So we would have \(\large \space \space \space \space \space \space \space \cancel{5a} - 2b = -7 \\ + \large \cancel{-5a} - 6b = -9 \\ ---------\\ \large \space \space \space \space \space \space \space \space \space\space \space \space\space\space-8b = -16\) Solving from that by dividing by 2...we get that \(\large b = 2\)
