In many states, those who submit income tax forms have the option of contributing to an election fund, but it is optional. Outside of that, if citizens want to donate to a campaign, they can give directly to a candidate, up to $2,600. However, with the recent Supreme Court decision, individuals can give to as many candidates they want.
