Gina is finding the equation of the median-median line for the data set below.
What should she use for the summary points?

minutes studying(x) 0 5 10 10 15 20 25 30 30
test score(y) 68 61 54 64 73 76 80 79 85


Group 1: (10, 61); Group 2: (15, 64); Group 3: (30,80)
Group 1: (5, 61); Group 2: (15, 73); Group 3: (25, 79)
Group 1: (10, 54); Group 2: (20, 76); Group 3: (30, 79)
Group 1: (5, 61); Group 2: (15, 73); Group 3: (30, 80)

Oh...it just wants you to find the Median...and then the first and third quartiles

So median of 'x'

0 , 5 , 10 , 10 , 15 , 20 , 25 , 30 , 30

The median of that is 15

now median of 'y'

54, 61, 64, 68, 73, 76, 79, 80, 85

Median of that would be 73

So group 2 would be (15,73)

Now we focus on the first and third quartiles...

A.k.a....the lower and higher median....of the median...lol

So we found the median of

0 , 5 , 10 , 10 , 15 , 20 , 25 , 30 , 30

to be 15

and

54, 61, 64, 68, 73, 76, 79, 80, 85

to be 73

Which means we look at those numbers....and look to the left ....and to the right...





so for 'x' again

we now only want the median...and what is LEFT of the median...so

0 , 5 , 10 , 10, 15

The median of that will be 10

to match that in the 'y' we have the median and what is LEFT of that again...

54, 61, 64, 68, 73

So the median there will be 64

So our group 1 will be (10, 64) which I just realized is not an option??

hmm....lets try the other side...focusing on the right of the median

73, 76, 79, 80, 85 median of 'y' would be 79

15 , 20 , 25 , 30 , 30 median of 'x' would be 25

so group 3 would be (25 , 79) group 2 would be (15, 73) and group 1 SHOULD be (10, 64)
